Forest Familiar / Spore Sprite
Sporelets are tiny fungal spirits most often found near rotting logs and moss-covered stumps after heavy rain. Though shy at first, they are curious little creatures, known to wander quietly behind travelers who move gently through the forest.
They hum softly at night echoing through the woods after sunset, especially where the air is damp and the mushrooms grow thick. Some believe the sound is harmless mimicry previous travellers songs and the dripping water and insects, while older forest mages insist the creatures carry whispered messages from the deep woods themselves.
Sporelets are drawn to sweetness. It is said that if offered a single drop of nectar, they may follow a traveler for a short while before disappearing back into the undergrowth without a trace.
Though each Sporelet lives only briefly, none are truly alone. Deep beneath the forest floor, threads of fungi and roots weave together in vast hidden networks, it carries memories between them like whispers through the earth. What one Sporelet once saw, others will always remember.
Because of this, forest wanderers speak carefully of how they treat the woods.
Those who protect or leave offerings may find themselves quietly guided by soft humming in the dark, led toward shelter, hidden paths, or patches of rare herbs. But those who damage the fores or take more than they need are said to earn a tiny spore’s scorn. Such people often wake to spoiled supplies, mold spreading unnaturally fast through their packs, or the faint sound of humming circling just beyond the firelight.
Despite this finding a Sporelet is considered a good omen among wandering herbalists and forest folk, a sign that the woods have allowed your passing.
